Client Profile: Audah Al-Shammari
"I am Audah Al-Shammari. I work for SHARQ and I am the Project Manager for SHARQ’s third expansion project. SHARQ is Eastern Petrochemical Company, which is one of SABIC’s affiliates. SABIC is Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation.
We have signed a contract with Foster Wheeler to do the utilities and offsite for a major petrochemical complex. We are doing ethylene, polyethylene, high density polyethylene, low density polyethylene and ethylene glycol plants, as well as the utilities, storage and shipping facilities that are associated with that.
This is a mega project of US$3 billion in its totality. The total programme is a three-year programme, of which we have completed the FEED package (2004-2005). From August 2005 until now we are just about to complete the engineering and procurement phase. Then we go through another phase, which is a construction phase, which will go on until 2007.
We went through a competitive bidding process and found that, after much bidding analysis, bid tabulation and bid review with senior management, that Foster Wheeler Energy Limited provided the expertise, had the experience and provided the knowledge base and the know-how that we needed to conduct this programme.
Foster Wheeler is responsible for design, engineering, procurement, of all the equipment and bulk materials, and construction. Foster Wheeler is composed of people that have extended experience and extended knowledge. I found them very co-operative; they assess risks, and they develop contingencies and mitigation plans for these risks. They try to be conservative in terms of applying engineering standards as per specification. It gives me comfort that their engineering standards as per specification are being honoured, and that drawings and designs meet requirements and that there are no problems associated with start-ups and surprises.
I found Foster Wheeler very experienced, very co-operative, very courteous, respectful of clients, and I am honoured and pleased to be working with Foster Wheeler. I have been working with them for over a year now and it has been a fantastic experience for me."
