Client: Woodside Energy Ltd.
Location: Western Australia

The LNG market is one in which we excel and one is which our key strengths are sought after. So when Woodside Energy (Operator) was looking to add a new processing train to the existing facilities in its North West Shelf Venture, it was our expertise that secured the contract.

Leading a joint venture, we added a fifth liquefaction train, with a production capacity of 4.4 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) to the existing 11.9 mtpa LNG complex. The project was demanding, both in terms of the technical requirements and the environment in which work is taking place. For example, the site preparation process, alone, required the excavation of some 400,000m³ of materials, processed and compacted to provide the construction plate areas.

Extreme weather conditions can be a feature at site, with temperatures often in excess of 45°C - not forgetting the potential for tropical cyclones. All whilst working within a live operating plant. Just another day's work for Foster Wheeler!

It's a groundbreaking plant too - this is the first onshore LNG processing train in the world to be designed and constructed in modular form. It achieved first LNG production ahead of Woodside’s target.
