The Petro Rabigh integrated refinery/petrochemicals complex is one of the industries' most significant investments.
The story begins with Isam A. Al-Bayat, Vice President, New Business Development, Saudi Arabian Oil Company:

Just the kind of complex and challenging project we thrive on, we have already completed the feasibility study and FEED for this world-scale development, and have acted as the major EPC contractor for the implementation of a key part of this complex.
As part of the development, the Rabigh refinery is being upgraded to produce more transportation fuels. A new high-olefins fluid catalytic cracker complex is being integrated with a world-scale, ethane-based cracker producing ethylene, propylene and gasoline, as well as other refined products.
Downstream units will convert all of the olefin production into petrochemical products, such as linear low-density polyethylene, high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, propylene oxide and mono ethylene glycol.
And now, the entire complex is operational and producing on-specification products.
